Who Moved My Cheese? By Spencer JohnsonWho Moved My Cheese? An Amazing Way to Deal with Change in Your Work and in Your Life, is a motivational book by Spencer Johnson. The book describes change in one’s work and life and is written in the form of a parable. It remains one of the best selling business books of all time.

The book highlights the changing nature of business and how we need to constantly adapt to environmental factors in our business. It is well worth the read and I recommend you do so.

It occurred to me today that so many of the people we deal with, have never thought about the impact that the internet is having on the business environment. They prefer to act like the characters Hem and Haw in the parable of “Who moved my Cheese?”. That there is a shift in the way we communicate is indisputable. For instance one billion people are regular users of Facebook, that is a seventh of the worlds population. These people are sharing, collaborating and being transparent with each other like we have never experienced before.

People are using other online communication tools to collaborate across industries to disrupt established ways of doing business and in the process are unleashing amazing value for consumers.

Much like the parable of Hem and Haw in “Who moved my Cheese?” many people are terrified by these developments and refuse to participate in this new information explosion to their detriment.

At The Online Marketer I have to constantly remind myself to be gentle with these people because they have real fears about the new ways of connecting and doing business. They are battling to come to terms with the shift away from print media and embracing the new tools that allow them to connect to new business leads. And so at The Online Marketer we have tried to build a supportive culture. One where we can hold hands with our clients and lead them into new and exciting paths to obtain business leads and to create new products suited to this ever changing world.

To this end all our clients are given an enormous “value add” by being enrolled in our Online Marketers Club, a place where they can learn how to deal with these developments and have the courage to embrace the change that Haw experienced.
